Need more energy? Eat more fruits and vegetables every day according to a recent study published in the British Journal of Health Psychology. It appears it is also good for your overall mood. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables makes people feel happier and calmer.

Researchers from the University of Otago in New Zealand had 281 young people to keep food diaries and fill out questionnaires about their emotions every for three weeks. They tracked how many fruits, vegetables, and snack foods had been eaten. The results showed a correlation between positive mood and energy levels and fruit and vegetable consumption.

“On days when people ate more fruits and vegetables,” Dr. Tamlin Connor noted, “they reported feeling calmer, happier and more energetic than they normally did.”

Aim for seven to eight servings a day. Half of each meal should be vegetables or fruit.  Reach for fruit or vegetable snacks throughout the day in place of those unhealthy things  you’re eating.
